Why have the enemies of the US become both stronger and more brazen these last 7 years?

Because Bush tipped our hand to them. They see that the threat of attack was actually worse than the attack itself. And they realize that we are way overextended militarily. Of course, try to explain this to a die hard GOP hack and they will deny that our enemies have been emboldened.
