Why is there so much talk about mulims now?

im 24 years old. before year 2000 i never new anything about muslims i never saw anything on the news about them. now all the time its muslims this muslims that. god this god that. anti america this anti uk that. what is so important about the muslim people and there religion. because to me since there religion has been in the news more there has been much more violence and killings to do with them.
